Veteran filmmaker Ridley Scott says he would be stupid if he pass on the opportunity to direct Gladiator 2. Scott is acclaimed widely for titles like Alien and Blade Runner, and has helmed the original Gladiator back in the year 2000. He was speaking to The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show recently when he made the statement.
Gladiator stars Russel Crowe as the iconic character Maximus Decimus Meridius. The epic movie has taken the audiences by storm during the time of its release. It also bagged a huge commercial success, by crossing over $450 million and earning a Golden Globe Academy Award.
The follow-up to Gladiator has been buzzed to be under curtains for over a decade. Although Scott has always been positive and clear about the sequel, some hiccups prevailed about the narrative and the storyline which would do justice to the epic character. Recently, the filmmaker has revealed optimistic news about the full development of the Gladiator 2 script, leaving the fans even more excited. It is also rumoured that the movie will get a thumbs up once Scott finishes his works in his recent upcoming Kitbag.
Now in the interview, he has made a more optimistic statement about the sequel and said he would be ‘critically stupid’ to not direct the movie. He also seems not to be passing on the opportunity. To the long-awaited fans, this affirmation has definitely given many sparks of expectations.
Meanwhile, Scott is currently busy with his latest feature film Kitbag, which was announced back in 2020. The historical film set in the 19th century will delve deep into Napoleon Bonaparte’s rise to power.
