Bengali actress Rii went to Bangladesh recently and went through an ordeal. She went to shoot a film and came back in January. Recently, the actress complained that she did not get her remuneration after the shooting. She waited for a month and a half and called the director and the producer countless times. They did not receive the call and that broke her patience. She wrote on Facebook about her experience. Later Rii opened up to the media and elaborated on what happened with her.
Rii said, “They owe me around Rs three lakhs. This is a big sum for me and I have been waiting for it for a long time. I called them many times. They are either not taking the calls or the phone is switched off. I then wrote on Facebook. When I talked to the production people on Thursday, they misbehaved. They objected to why I wanted money. I wrote that on Facebook. Otherwise, I am not that person who will reveal her personal life on Facebook.”
However, the producer promised to pay the money after she wrote on Facebook. Rii’s friends in Dhaka also came to her help. But why such a delay? Rii said, “There was a problem in sending money. I don’t understand it. I previously worked in Sri Lanka without any hassle. This is the first time I had such an ordeal. But it was a learning experience for me. I will work in dollars in the future and will keep in mind that no deal is done with Indian rupees.”
Many of our Tollywood actresses faced harassment while working in Bangladesh, but their actresses got a fair atmosphere in Tollywood. What is the difference? Rii said, “I got a warm welcome there. People are hospitable. There were people to carry my bags and shoes. In Tollywood, people make a face when you ask them to carry your bags. Both places have positives and negatives. I did not understand why such a thing happened. They promised that they would pay asap. I will wait.”
Recently, Tollywood actress Sayantika Banerjee faced problems while working in Bangladesh. Now, Rii complained. Bangladeshi actor Sohel Mondal acted in Mayar Jonjal, directed by Indranil Roychoudhury, last year. He sees this as an isolated event. He told Anandabazar Online, “Both sides can tell better what the terms of agreements are and who is getting how much remuneration.” He does not want to see it as any currency-bartering problem or any other policy issue. However, he gave some advice on working in Dhaka. “Just read the agreement carefully and take prior information about people with whom you are working. Then I think no problem will happen,” he said.
