Malayalam cinema was heartbroken on Sunday when the news came out that veteran actor and comedian Innocent passed away. The actor, who had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi for almost two weeks, breathed his last on Sunday at 10:30 PM. Fans and celebrities alike mourned the loss of the great actor, and many took to social media to pay tribute to the late star.
Mohanlal took to Facebook to pen a heartfelt note about Innocent. Paying tribute to how Innocent was able to bring so much joy, laughter and love into the world, Mohanlal spoke of how he still could not believe that the veteran actor was no more, and added that Innocent would forever be in his heart. The duo had collaborated on a number of films, including Vietnam Colony(1992), Manichitrathazhu(1993), Mithunam (1993), Kilukkam(1991), Vamanapuram Bus Route(2004), Kilukkam Kilukilukkam(2006), Ennum Eppozhum(2015),and Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea(2021), among others.
Manju Warrier, Jayaram, Suresh Gopi, and Prithviraj Sukumaran also expressed their grief at Innocent’s passing.
Dulquer Salmaan, Gokul Suresh, Soubin Shahir, Nimisha Sajayan, and Roshan Mathew took to social media to honour the actor as well.
Innocent had also been a politician as well, serving as an MP from 2014 till 2019. Politician Shashi Tharoor, actor-politician Kushbu Sundar, and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan were among others who mourned Innocent.
Innocent had been admitted to hospital earlier this month after complaining of uneasiness and breathing issues. He had been admitted to the ICU, with his condition being critical for the past week. The actor had been diagnosed with cancer in the past, and had since been declared cancer-free.
Innocent was last seen sharing the screen with Prithviraj in Kaduva, and the former’s last film, Paachuvum Albhuthavilakkum, directed by Akhil Sathyan, is awaiting release.
