RIP Surekha Sikri: Bollywood celebrities pay tribute to veteran actress

Veteran actress Surekha Sikri breathed her last today and had her family members in Mumbai by her side. The actress died due to cardiac arrest at the age of 75. She was known for playing the character of a matriarch, Kalyani Devi in the famous Indian TV series Balika Vadhu. The late actress was recently seen in the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Badhaai Ho that also features Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta and Sanya Malhotra, while she last worked in one of the segments directed by Zoya Akhtar for Netflix’s horror anthology Ghost Stories. 

The celebrities from the Indian film industry including Karisma Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Gajraj Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and others paid tribute to the late actress.

Janhvi, who worked with Surekha Sikri in Ghost Stories shared the late actress’ photo on her Instagram story and called her a true legend.

Karisma shared the screen space with Surekha Sikri in the 2001 film Zubeidaa. She also shared a picture on her Instagram story that featured both of them along with the late Amrish Puri and wrote, “It was a wonderful journey to have you play my mother in Zubeidaa. So honoured to have gotten a chance to work with such a talented actor. Rest in peace Surekha Ji.”

While Ayushmann Khurrana shared emotional pictures with his co-actor from Badhaai Ho and wrote a rather big caption where he called the veteran actress a part of his family. “Surekha Sikri was the head of our family, who was more progressive than the entire family tree. You know what, that was her in real life too. A complete boho. A chiller. Young at heart,” a small part of the caption read.

The actor also urged everyone to watch her video reciting Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s nazm~ “Mujh-se pehli si mohabbat mere mehboob na maang.”

Meanwhile, among other actors, Sidharth Shukla and Divya Dutta also paid their tributes to the deceased actress.
