James Caan, widely recognized for his role as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, passed away at the age of 82. The sad news was unveiled by his manager on Thursday. The iconic actor is known for his roles in other movies as well including El Dorado, Misery, Thief, The Rain People, Gardens of Stone, Rollerball and several others.
James is most remembered for his role as Sonny in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, for which he received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor.
On July 7, James' family responded with a tweet from his Twitter account, thanking everyone for their love, prayers, and sympathies throughout this tough period.
According to Hindustan Times, James' manager confirmed the news to AFP.
James Caan started his professional career in theatre in the early 1960s, followed by minor roles in TV programmes such as Route 66 and Combat! The FBI, which was led by films such as El Dorado, was really a big role for the actor in 1965. Years later, the actor rose to prominence as the arrogant Sonny in The Godfather.
His greatest and perhaps most unforgettable performance was in this part. Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Diane Keaton and Robert Duvall were featured in it. Francis Ford Coppola directed the picture, which is widely recognised as one of the best ever filmed.
In the 1970s and 1980s, James featured in a variety of great movies. His last film performance was in the 2021 romantic comedy Queen Bees, alongside Ellen Burstyn.
On the other hand, the actor has been married four times. His most previous marriage to Linda Stokes spanned from 1995 to 2009. One of the actor's five children, Scott Caan, pursued a career in acting.
