Kantara star Rishab Shetty to play Bheeman in Randamoozham? New title and official announcement expected by March 2026

Randamoozham, based on the legendary MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel, is one of the much-anticipated Malayalam films that has been in the back burner for long. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal was in talks to play the central role of Bheeman in the movie over a decade ago, but the project is yet to take off. Recently, there have been speculations that Kantara actor-director Rishab Shetty could be starring in and directing the long-delayed film. Though there has been no official announcement yet, MT Vasudevan Nair’s daughter Aswathy V Nair said that audiences can expect an update by March 2026.
What is the update on Randamoozham movie
Aswathy V Nair, who has been actively working for the movie adaptation of Randamoozham, recently confirmed to News Malayalam TV that project would definitely go on floors this year. However, when quizzed further about whether Kannada star-filmmaker Rishab Shetty would be spearheading the project, Aswathy chose to neither confirm nor dismiss the reports.
“The movie will be on this year. But I cannot reveal more details about the team as I have signed a non-disclosure agreement. An official announcement would be made by the production house soon,” said Aswathy, while adding that the process of title registration and so on are currently progressing.
Aswathy V. Nair had earlier helmed one of the segments in the anthology series, Manorathangal, which is based on her father MT's nine short stories. Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Fahadh Faasil were part of Manorathangal.
On the other hand, Rishab Shetty was last seen in the blockbuster film Kantara Chapter 1, which was the prequel to 2022 hit Kantara. An action-packed mythological film, Kantara narrated the tale of tribal warrior Berme, who seeks to protect the sacred Kantara forests.

Randamoozham is an award-winning Malayalam novel, penned by the legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair. The novel narrates the tale of Pandava brother Bheeman, exploring the epic tale through his eyes. Director Hariharan and MT, also a renowned scriptwriter, had set out to make the movie adaptation with Mohanlal in the lead role. However, the ambitious project never materialised. MT passed away in 2024, without seeing his flagship work on screen.
