In the last couple of weeks, a lot of the Kannada film related discussions on social media have been about Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, which will be in theatres on October 2. Why haven’t they started promotions? Where is the trailer? Those have been the most commonly heard comments, which the makers have not chosen to address yet. Instead, all that they have been highlighting are their business partners – either to distribute the film in different parts of the world or as brand collaborators.

Late on September 10, though, the buzz changed tone. It didn’t come from an official source, but there was widespread speculation that a date had been set for the film’s trailer release. September 20 is the date that’s being heard now. The makers have not confirmed this, and even if it is actually the date, whether it will only be a digital release or if, like their bigger films, it will have a public event, considering that Kantara Chapter 1 is releasing in 6 Indian languages, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil, apart from English.

Considering that Rishab has been so very secretive about everything related to Kantara Chapter 1, revealing only two casting choices officially – Rukmini Vasanth as Kanakavathi and Gulshan Devaiah as Kulashekara – netizens had begun wondering if there’d be a trailer at all prior to the theatrical release. Given that it is a prequel to a very successful film, Kantara Chapter 1 has a massive buzz going for it already and irrespective of any promotions it will have a dedicated audience.
Arvind Kashyap returns as cinematographer, while music is yet again by Ajaneesh B Loknath. According to the latest, Ajaneesh has got Diljit Dosanjh for a song in the film, which is being recorded this week.
Q. Are Kantara and Kantara: Chapter 1 the same?
