Actress Rituparna Sengupta will be seen as Goddess Durga in one of the channel’s Mahalaya curation. The promo is out and the actress is all excited about the telecast. Meanwhile, her film, Mahishasur Marddini, will also be released after Puja. Directed by Ranjan Ghosh, the film also features Parambrata Chatterjee and Saswata Chatterjee in lead.

Talking about her first ever Mahalaya curation on TV, Rituparna told Hindustan Times, “Better late than never. Previously I have performed many times as Durga on stage. But this is my first time on a small screen. It is a fabulous experience.”

Elaborating on the show, Devi Dasmahavidya, the actress said, “Goddess Sati and her ten avatars’ stories will be depicted in the show. I also learned a lot about their stories. Everyone in the entire team, from hair stylists to makeup persons and costume designers, everyone worked hard. Choreographers have also put a great effort. My makeup team consisted of 25 people.”

Mahalaya on television is traditionally also enjoyed by children. The actress, meanwhile, is a little apprehensive about her children enjoying the show. “They are modern children and have opinions about everything. Meanwhile, my mother is the most excited one to see me as goddess Durga. My husband Sanjay has also wanted to watch it. However, he will be in Singapore at that time,” she said.

Mahalaya means nostalgia. Talking about her childhood, Rituparna said, “I have a lot of memories. My grandmother switched on the radio at 4 AM. Sleepy-eyed, we used to listen to the voice of Birendra Krishna Vadra. That had no replacement. Basically, puja started from that day.”

During Puja, Rituparna will stay in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Singapore. She is the brand ambassador of a Mumbai Puja. “I have to go there. There are some appearances at Kolkata as well,” she signed off.
