Ritwick Chakraborty is all geared up with his upcoming film Mayar Jonjal. Directed by Indranil Roychowdhury, the film is an Indo-Bangladesh project and also features Chandreyee Ghosh, Aupee Karim, Bratya Basu, Shohel Mondal, and others. The film will be released on February 24. Meanwhile, Ritwick has also been busy with his other projects, including Arindam Sil’s Feluda series, Gangtok Gondogol. Before starting the shooting of Gora, the actor talked to us about the overwhelming number of detective content generated in Bengal.
Talking about the number of thrillers, Ritwick said that while too many of them are made, viewers usually love them. “Besides Feluda and Byomkesh, other series like my Gora or Anirban’s (Chakrabarti) Eken Babu also gained a lot of popularity. There are indeed way too many detective thrillers being made but somehow those are working.”
Besides Feluda, Ritwick will also work in Raj Chakraborty’s Abar Proloy for Zee5 and Hoichoi’s Mr Kolketa, which is directed by Surajit Chatterjee. Mr Kolketa is also a thriller-cum-treasure hunt. The shooting of Gora’s second season will start by the end of this week. Gora is again a detective character incepted by Sahana Dutta.
Talking about if Byomkesh is a coveted role for actors, Ritwick said, “I worked as Ajit and I know that more actors played the character of Ajit than Byomkesh. In my experience, the viewers watch a Feluda and Byomkesh film (or series), even if they don’t like it. They watch it and pan it soon after watching it. And yet they watch it.”
Ritwick will be seen in Rajdeep Ghosh’s Ayu Rekha and Pritha Chakraborty’s Paharganj Halt.
