Riz Ahmed’s Left Handed Films and Lulu Wang’s Local Time will produce a comedy series titled Son of Good Fortune for Amazon Prime Video.
According to Variety, the series will centre on an undocumented Filipino teenager living in the San Francisco Bay area, dealing with a tumultous relationship with his mother, a former B-movie actor, falling in love for the first time and struggling to pay a massive debt while his life goes through serious change.
Son of Good Fortune is an adaptation of Lysley Tenorio's book of the same name. Andrew Lopez will bring the story to screen and also serve as executive producer. Ahmed will executive produce with Allie Moore (Left Handed) while Wang and Dani Melia will produce via Local Time.
Tenoria is also a consulting producer with Amazon Studios also attached as producers.
After Sound of Metal, Son of Good Fortune is the second collaboration Ahmed's Left Handed Films has had with Amazon. His banner is also working on a new series Englistan set at BBC Two.
Meanwhile, Wang is working on an Amazon series Expats as showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer, which is based on The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee. Wang is best known for films like Posthumous and The Farewell.
