Rupa Singh is young, bold and fearless. An ardent animal lover at heart, she got evicted from the reality show Roadies Karm Yaa Kaand. She runs an NGO for homeless animals in Rewa, a district in Madhya Pradesh. Not the one to sulk about losing, she is an extremely happy and positive person, who is all set for her new life ahead. OTTplay caught up with Rupa Singh for an exclusive interview, wherein she gave a first-hand experience about the show and also what it takes to be a contestant.

In a nutshell, who is Rupa Singh all about?
Rupa Singh is a fearless person, who is always the needy and the helpless. I am an extremely emotional person who is always there to help the animals. I am a full-time animal activist. I have rescued many animals till date. In the last 5 years, I have rescued more than 5000 animals. In my animal shelter, I have more than 70 abandoned dogs and more than 20 cows. At the same time, in case anyone shows any unwanted attitude, I will teach that person a lesson that his / her seven generations will always remember.

In your audition, you said you will do push ups. What’s the maximum number of push ups that you have done so far?
Around 12 push-ups.

During the audition itself, you had initially said that you won’t be able to climb the rope. But, with the encouragement of Sonu Sood and other gang leaders, you achieved that. How did you feel at that time?
I had been for Army selection exam, where there were many similar exercises. I had even got selected there in Chennai. But, due to medical conditions, I could not continue there. I had a great fall there, whose pain was still persistent in my body. That’s why I openly told Rhea mam that I won’t be able to do the rope climbing task. But, the way Sonu Sood sir motivated me to achieve the task simply pumped the confidence in me and I was able to climb the rope!

When you got three red lights from the gang leaders, how did it feel? Did the world come crashing down?
Usually I don’t travel long distances. The very fact that I travelled from Rewa to Mumbai was definitely a big deal for me. I just did not expect to be selected at all in the first place.

And that moment when you were dejected of being rejected, Sonu Sood pressed the buzzer. How did it feel?
That time I understood the power of Sonu Sood is extremely greater than all the gang leaders.

When the reverse bidding started, who did you think will win the bid?
Initially, I wasn’t even aware of the concept of reverse bidding. My mind was fully occupied about my return journey from Mumbai. I also realised how wrong people are to spread hatred about Rhea mam. She is an extremely sweet person.

When Rhea initially said that, even though she wanted to put you in Prince’s gang, she still told you to go to Gautam’s gang. Do you feel that, if you were in Prince’s gang, would you have made it to the top?
Many of my family members and friends felt the same way. Just like a famous line in Munnabhai MBBS that states, “What’s the procedure to change the room”, the whole journey I was also asking, “What’s the procedure to change the gang?”! (laughs) I used to sleep in other gang member’s tents.

What prompted you to get into Roadies?
Initially, I wasn’t even interested in Roadies. It was my guy who pushed me into the Indore audition. That time, I realised the efforts that people take to participate in the auditions. Because of my SSB preparations, I could get through the GD (Group Discussions). There were many who told me that they will meet me in GD 2. But it was just me who got through GD 2. And none of the ones who claimed to get ahead were not to be seen at all!

Now that you have a platform like Roadies, will you use it to promote your cause of animal welfare?
Of course. I had even spoken to Sonu sir about it, who told me that he will get me connected to his team regarding the same. My basic purpose to get into Roadies was that to increase the social media standing so that I can do a lot for animals. 99 percent of my earnings go towards animal welfare. I only spend one percent of what I earn. Ditto with my family also. I want to be the voice for the helpless animals.

Besides Roadies, any other reality show you have taken part in?
I am not the type of person who will participate in reality shows. It’s a big thing for my family, friends and my city that I have come this far in the show.

What, in your opinion, are the essentials to be the winner on the Roadies’ show?
You need to be extremely tough mentally and also physically. In case you come from a pampered lifestyle and family, then, do not come to the show. Do not expect luxury and comfort in the show. It’s all about mind games. There are doctors available all the time during the task.

You had all the potential to be the winner. Then, why do you think that you lost out mid-way?
I did not expect to get voted out so early. Had there been no fights, I think, I could have gone a long way. My mistake was that I was not involved with Rhea’s gang. I was a bit upset and angry with Gautam sir.

Who, in your opinion, are the top three contenders for this season’s ultimate trophy?
There is Rishabh, Aashika and Vashu.

You come across as a person who speaks straight from the heart. Do you think that being politically correct is the name of the game and also a secret formula to ensure win?
Very much. There have been many instances who have made it to the semi-finals because of this factor only. Communication is the key and silence is golden.

Will you go back to Roadies if you were to be called as a wild card entry?
Surely. Many people told me that I am extremely deserving to be a wild card entry.

How was Sonu Sood as a host?
Extremely polite and gentle. He is an extremely saintly person.

Who was your favourite gang leader/s?
Rhea mam and Gautam sir.

What next after Roadies?
All that I need to do is to go home and eat ‘ghar ka khaana’. But I am missing the journey very badly. Now, I know how to behave and act in any reality show. I also got to know where to speak and where to keep my mouth shut.
