The sequel to the Robert Pattinson-led film The Batman has been a subject of uncertainty. Despite the success of the first instalment of the potential new caped-crusader franchise that releases earlier this year, the future of The Batman 2 is certainly not set in stone at the moment.

Recently, Deadline confirmed that the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader, aside from the Batgirl was no longer moving forward at HBO Max.

However, the latest updates state that the much-awaited The Batman sequel is back on the cards with Matt Reeves, the co-writer and director of the first film, returning to the scribing duties. Reeves will be joined by Mattson Tomlin to script The Batman 2 and the duo is slated to begin work on the new rendition at the earliest.

Mattson Tomlin also worked on the script of the first instalment but was uncredited eventually, with Matt Reeves sharing the credits with Peter Craig. Tomlin is said to have met Matt Reeves during the making of the former’s 2021 directorial debut Mother/Android (starring Chloe Grace Moretz) which was produced by Reeves. Mattson Tomlin made his comic book debut with the Batman series titled Batman: The Imposter.

The news of The Batman franchise’s expansion gained traction after Matt Reeves struck an impressive ‘first-look’ deal with Warner Bros. Television Group.

Coming back to The Batman 2, the plot details remain a secret and it is unclear as to the direction the writers intend on taking. Fans were teased with glimpses of the iconic DC villain Joker in the concluding moments of The Batman while The Riddler to remained alive in the Arkham prison: though far-fetched at the moment, fans have wished for a potential union of the two supervillains in the upcoming sequel.

The Batman (2022), despite the reservations of the fans and critics prior to its release, went to become a major commercial success and is said to have earned close to $775 million at the global box office. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/The Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / Riddler.
