Rocking Star Yash’s KGF Chapter 2 to drop on Amazon Prime Video on May 27?

KGF: Chapter 2 is still enjoying its dream run in theatres in all the languages it released in and is breaking box-office records along the way. And yet, sections of the audience has been keenly waiting for word on when the film will be available to stream on OTT. It was earlier reported that Amazon Prime Video, had snapped up the streaming rights of KGF: Chapter 2 in all languages. The streaming platform is also home to KGF: Chapter 1.

At the time, it was reported that the makers, Hombale Films had struck a deal for an OTT outing at 50-60 days from theatrical release, as against the most common 30-day clause for most other films. Currently in its third week at the box office and still going strong, KGF: Chapter 2 is expected to see a surge in collections during the Eid al-Fitr weekend, after which it is likely to decline, say industry insiders. Giving the film competition at the box-office by the end of April is Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi’s film with son Ram Charan, Acharya.

Industry insiders say that Hombale Films will look at capitalizing on the momentum of KGF: Chapter 2’s theatrical release by not delaying its OTT debut. According to the latest buzz in industry circles, the Yash-starrer will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from May 27 onward. This has not been confirmed by the streaming platform or the makers, but would seem the most likely scenario, as that would place it at 44 days from theatrical release.

Produced by Hombale Films and directed by Prashant Neel, KGF: Chapter 2 was initially billed as the second and final instalment in the KGF saga. However, a post-credit scene in the film teased the possibility of a third film, that will chronicle the time period between 1979 and 1981 in Yash’s Rocky Bhai’s life, wherein he becomes the most wanted criminal in the world. Karthik Gowda from Hombale Films recently confirmed that initial discussions on KGF3 have begun.
