Nearly 5 months after the title of Rocking Star Yash’s much-awaited 19th film was announced, the movie – Toxic – is finally on floors. Produced by KVN Productions and directed by Malayalam filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, the shoot of Toxic has reportedly begun with its Bengaluru schedule. Social media is abuzz with messages about the film’s supposed start, which, incidentally, coincides with the date the first look of KGF: Chapter 1 was revealed 7 years ago.
Several netizens urged KVN Productions to provide an official update about the shoot status, considering that the only one so far has been the title reveal and that the film is set to be in theatres on April 10, 2025. There’s been a lot of speculation about the film’s cast, with Geetu’s story apparently requiring three strong female characters. These are supposedly being played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shruthi Haasan and Kiara Advani.
When Kareena’s casting news came, the actress was subjected to a lot of online trolling, mainly ageism . It was later said that the actress would be playing Yash’s sister, which has put an end to the trolling, but since there is no news of any other local talent, that’s been an issue highlighted. But then, given that Rocking Star Yash is making the film for a global audience, all has been forgiven.
A day ago, the buzz on social media was that Toxic is being made in two parts, which is an interesting development, given that Yash has said earlier that his next would not be a big film, so that audiences do not expect a movie as massive or bigger than KGF.
The focus, he said, would be on making a good film. But, then again, Geetu is known to improvise on set and has been quoted as saying that she does not work with a bound script, making her the worst candidate for a script narration. In the same interview, she had said that her plan was to make a gangster film from a female perspective. The title reveal of Toxic has led to suggestions that the film is based on Goa’s drug mafia.
