Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani marks the return of Karan Johar to the director's seat after a 7-year hiatus. The film, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles, performed well at the box office and was a major commercial success in 2023. The film has been one of the most-talked-about topics due to the kiss scene between Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi's characters in the film. In a new interview, Karan addressed the scene and also shared whether a sequel can be made exploring the love story of Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi.

While speaking to The Times of India, Karan Johar reacted to the buzz around Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi's kiss in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. On whether Rocky Aur Rani is on par with his earlier films, Karan said that it is right up there with My Name Is Khan and his first directorial, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which remains special as it brought a smile to his father’s (producer Yash Johar) face. 

Reacting to the on-screen kiss between veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi in RRKPK, Karan said, “There is a separate love story there. I may one day make a film on their love story in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.”

The film tells the story of a Punjabi man named Rocky and a well-educated Bengali journalist named Rani, who fall in love despite their different backgrounds and families. To overcome family disapproval, they decide to live with each other's families for three months before the wedding, hoping to bridge their cultural gap and gain acceptance.
