Karan Johar reveals that Ranveer Singh's Rocky and Alia Bhatt's Rani in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani are inspired by a real Bollywood couple.

Karan Johar's film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was a hit amongst the audience as well as critics. This movie, which starred Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt made more than Rs 300 crore at the box office (worldwide). Fans loved the chemistry between Ranveer and Alia's characters Rocky and Rani. However, Karan Johar revealed a startling secret in a recent interview. The director made a revealation that the story may have been partially inspired by a well-known Bollywood power couple.
Who are the real-life Rocky Aur Rani?
According to the director's most recent interview, Ranveer's Rocky and Alia's Rani may have 'subconsciously' been influenced by Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna. Karan explained to Mid-Day, "Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I've had dinners with them, meals with them, hung out with them. And there's a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie. He finds her hilarious, she finds him hilarious, for different reasons."
The filmmaker therefore believed that it was possible for individuals from two different social strata and demographics to truly discover love. "It's like we put ourselves in boxes. Like when we're finding a relationship, we put ourselves in places where we're comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere", he added.

While working on Umesh Mehra's 1999 action movie International Khiladi, Akshay and Twinkle began dating. The two got married in 2001. They have two children: A boy named Aarav and a daughter named Nitara.
About Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani movie also starred Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Tota Roy Chowdhury, and Churni Ganguly in lead roles in addition to Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. Despite coming from very different backgrounds, Rocky Randhawa (played by Ranveer Singh) and Rani Chatterjee (played by Alia Bhatt) fall in love in the movie. They exchange homes for three months in order to prove their compatibility to their families. On July 28, the movie opened in theaters.
