The film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar, completed one year after its release. It was released on July 28, 2023. Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh play the protagonists in the film. Bengali actress and actor Churni Ganguly and Tota Roy Chowdhury were the show-stealers. How much did Tota’s career change after the film?
Tota plays Alia aka Rani’s father and a Kathak dancer Chondon. His acting was praised all over the country. The actor said that his career was going slow before the film. “If you don’t have backing, actors become typecast after a time. It happened to me also. But the film changed everything,” he said. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani streams on Prime Video.
Tota was surprised to see so much praise since he did not expect so much. Then he gradually understood. But this was not the first time. Tota reminisced, “Twenty years back, I got rave reviews for Chokher Bali.”
Tota got several offers from Bollywood after Rocky Aur Rani. He thinks that many people rediscovered him in Bengal. “Those who thought that I was a good-for-nothing boy started telling me that they knew I would do something like this,” he said. The actor further added, “Those who did not know me or avoided me, started knowing me.” Tota enjoys his second innings as well as the double standard of the Bengali industry.
Tota believes that a successful person has a lot of enemies. It happened to him last year. “I understand that many people conspired in the background. But I am experienced at handling them.” However, Tota wants to go slow for new works in Tollywood.
Tota worked on some important Bollywood projects recently. He was in Neeraj Pandey’s Special Ops 2 and the series by Vikramaditya Motwane. He also has a film in his bag. He said, “From September 2023 to April 2024, the workload was so much that I could not understand where I was. But I enjoyed every moment.
