Clay Court action is back once and for all for tennis fans to celebrate and it does not get bigger than the Roland-Garros. The 126th edition of the French Open is all set to begin on May 22 with its finals taking place on June 4 and June 5. And, you can watch it from the comfort of your home. Here’s where to watch the much-awaited game.
Like every other year, some of the biggest names and the most in-form players will take the court once again, offering a sporting spectacle. The draws of the tournament will kick off on May 22 with the qualifiers on May 16.
Last year’s Roland-Garros saw Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas take on each other in the Men’s final, with the former winning after being two sets down. Barbora Krejcikova won her first Grand Slam singles title beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and also won the women’s doubles with Katerina Siniakova.
This year, Djoker is returning as the defending champion, after having won the Italian Open in a blowout final. He will be quick to establish himself as one of the favourites once again.
Carlos Alcaraz, who won the Miami Open and the Madrid Open among others, will try to make history in this year's French Open by becoming the first teenager to win a Grand Slam after Rafael Nadal in 2005.
Talking about The King of Clay, Nadal impressed the whole tennis world once again after winning a five-set thriller in the Australian Open final against Daniil Medvedev to secure a record 21st Grand Slam title. The star, however, has found himself facing another injury setback during his game against Denis Shapovalov at the Italian Open. We are still unclear about whether Nadal will return to the French Open this year.
Former champion Roger Federer will miss out on this year's French Open but it does not come as a surprise. The 20 time Grand Slam winner is still haunted with injuries and will sit out this year’s Roland-Garros.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud are also names that will hope to win the Grand Slam this year.
Iga Swiatek, the current Women’s single world number 1 is favourite to go all the way, after having a fantastic season so far. Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur and Maria Sakkari are others who will try to pose a threat to the 2020 French Open winner.
The qualifying rounds will be held from May 16-20 with the main draws starting from May 22 and will go on until June 5. Exciting news for all tennis fans in India is that Roland-Garros 2022 can be watched live on SonyLiv.
Sony LIV made the news official and has also released a video to add to the excitement. Including some great and memorable moments from Stade Roland Garros in Paris, the streaming platform has confirmed with the video that it will be easy for fans to watch the tournament through their app.
