Romeo, the Tamil film starring actor-composer Vijay Antony and Mirnalini Ravi in the lead roles, released in theatres on Thursday. Directed by debutant Vinayak Vaithianathan, the film is a romantic drama revolving around a newly married couple in which the wife is unwillingly married off by her parents.

Vijay Antony, who was last seen in Raththam, pairs up with Mirnalini Ravi of Super Deluxe fame, in Romeo. The film released on April 11 for the occasion of Eid. While the film is currently running in theatres, Romeo will be available for streaming on Prime Video after its run in the big screens. A streaming date is yet to be announced.

In Romeo, Vijay Antony plays Arivu, a Malaysia return who is a benevolent, soft-spoken and kind man falling in love with Mirnalini’s Leela, an aspiring actor. As fate would have it, he falls in love with her during his visit to native and proposes a marriage to her family. After the wedding happens much to Leela’s displeasure, she distances herself from Arivu while continuing to pursue her passion for acting. The rest of the film revolves around if Leela indeed becomes an actor and if she gets back together with her husband.

The film is written and directed by Vinayak Vaithianathan. Besides Vijay Antony and Mirnalini, the film also stars Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Ilavarasu, Thalaivasal Vijay, Sudha, Sreeja Ravi, and others. Romeo is backed by Vijay Antony Film Corporation banner.

Romeo is shot by cinematographer Farook J Basha, with Barath Dhanasekar scoring the music. Vijay Antony has also served as the editor of the film. He has been the editor for a few of his previous outings like Annadurai, Thimiru Pudichavan, Kodiyil Oruvan to name a few.

Romeo received mixed to positive reception. While calling it a generic film which has used tropes from films like Kaavalan and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, with the critics praising the lead actors’ performances.
