The week of July 26 has three very diverse, yet intriguing Kannada films headed to movie halls. There’s a much-delayed film from Raj B Shetty’s team that he hasn’t directed, a quirky comedy starring Achaar & Co’s director-actor Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy and Daredevil Mustafa’s Abhay and a crime thriller co-produced by Gantumoote maker Roopa Rao.

Here’s a look at the Kannada films of July 26

Roopanthara

Produced by Suhan Prasad, who backed Raj B Shetty’s debut Ondu Motteya Kathe, Roopanthara has been directed by debutant Mithilesh Edavalath, but for all practical purposes it is as good as a Raj film. His team, including cinematographer Pravin Shriyan and music director Midhun Mukundan are a part of the crew and Raj has assisted with writing the dialogues and songs, besides acting in it and presenting the film in theatres.

According to Mithilesh, contrary to earlier reports Roopanthara is not an anthology, although there are 5 distinctive stories. Instead, it is a hyperlinked narrative, with the characters having an impact on each other.

Family Drama

Debutant director Akarsh HP’s Family Drama caught the attention of cinephiles with the quirky trailers he released. Starring Rekha Kudligi, Abhay and Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy as members of a dysfunctional family, Family Drama follows the trio as they go about looking out for their own selfish goals. In the film, every character, including an 8-year-old boy is morally corrupt, the filmmaker had said.

The film, adds Akarsh, is meant for family viewing, and is a pure comedy, with no moral value lecture attached to it.

Kenda

The directorial debut of Gantumoote cinematographer Sahadev Kelvadi, Kenda is an exploration of disorganized crime as seen though the eyes of lower-rung criminals, the foot soldiers who actually do all the ‘work’. The film has BV Bharath, Pranav Sridhar, Vinod Susheela, Satish Kumar, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Sachin Sreenath, Bindu Raxidi and Sharath Gowda on its cast.
