When Roopesh Shetty won Bigg Boss Kananda’s first OTT season and the subsequent ninth TV season as well, his popularity sky-rocketed. And while Kannada cinema is clearly on the radar of the RJ and actor who is quite popular in Tulu films owing to his directorials Girgit and Circus, he was clear that he could not blindly accept everything coming his way. Educated choices were the order of the day for him and one such that he made after Bigg Boss Kannada was the film Adhipatra.

Adhipatra is a suspense thriller

The teaser of the film has just come out and going by the fleeting visuals made available, it appears that Roopesh is bringing an investigative thriller steeped in the culture of the coastal belt to Kannada audiences. Director Chayan Shetty’s film was shot across locations in Mangaluru and Udupi and features cultural references including Daivaradhane and Bhoota Kola, among others.

Adhipatra pairs Roopesh with television anchor Jhanvi of Gijji Giligili fame. The suspense crime drama also stars Prakash Thuminadu, Raghu Pandeshwar, MK Mata, Deepak Rai, Anil Uppal, and Prashanth, among others.

Roopesh’s last film in Kannada was Mankubhai Foxy Rani, in which he was paired with Geetha Bharathi Bhat. The actor will soon make his Tamil film debut with Sannidhanam PO, which has Yogi Babu in the lead. Also starring Pramod Shetty in a pivotal role, Sannidhananm PO is said to be an emotional comedy set against the backdrop of Sabarimala. The film will be released in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.

With two massive hit Tulu films to his credit, Roopesh is expected to return to the director’s chair, but the actor is looking at cementing his position in Kannada cinema has well. The point of going on Bigg Boss Kannada was to be able to do more Kannada films and ensure that they get the visibility they deserve. This was something that he felt was lacking, even when he tried to do content-driven cinema.
