Malayalam megastar Mammootty seems to have another hit on the cards with his latest release Rorschach, which is a psychological revenge-thriller helmed by Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha filmmaker Nisam Basheer. The film, which hit theatres on October 7, got off to a rousing start collecting close to Rs 2.5 crores in the first two days and trade analysts suggesting that the movie is only expected to rake in more, thanks to largely positive reviews.

The film also marks Mammootty Kampany’s first release and the makers will take heart from the responses of the audience and critics, who have praised the film’s craft and performances. Apart from the megastar, Bindu Panicker, Kottayam Nazir, Sanju Sivram, Grace Antony and Sharafudheen play pivotal roles in the film, which also has Asif Ali in a cameo.

While Rorschach didn’t have the hype that Amal Neerad’s Bheeshma Parvam or K Madhu’s CBI 5: The Brain had, the feedback so far points at another hit for Mammootty, who has been having a stellar year with an acclaimed performance in Ratheena Sharshad’s direct-to-OTT release Puzhu too.

The film’s satellite rights have been bought by Asianet and sources hint that Rorschach, much like Bheeshma Parvam earlier this year, could also drop on Disney+ Hotstar. However, the release date could be longer than usual. The makers of the film had reportedly signed an agreement with the theatre exhibitors that the film will run for a minimum of 50 days in theatres. This, however, doesn’t mean that it will drop on the streaming service only after its theatrical run. The film could release on its designation OTT platform in November second week and still play in theatres.

Meanwhile, the film’s director Nisam had earlier told OTTplay that Rorschach is a film that requires “undivided attention” from the audience. “People keep guessing this is where the story is headed, but I believe we have tried to ensure that the movie goes to unpredictable places. The entire film is something novel and that is also its biggest risk,” he said.
