It’s a film that grabbed eyeballs with its first look poster that featured leading man Mammootty with a mask, like the character from the Watchmen comic series. Directed by Nissam Basheer, the film, Rorschach, soon enough became one of the most widely anticipated films of the Malayalam megastar and for good reason, one must say, especially now that the official trailer is here.

A little while ago, the team released the trailer of the film on the occasion of Mammootty’s birthday. The actor plays Luke Anthony, a mysterious character whose arrival in a sleepy town affects the residents in strange ways. He, they reckon, is there with an agenda, but what?

Written by Sameer Abdul, the film, which also stars Sharafudheen, Grace Antony, Aditi Ravi, Bindu Panicker, Jagadeesh and Kottayam Nazir in pivotal roles, is the Mollywood debut of music composer Midhun Mukundan (Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana fame). Rorschach marks Mammootty’s second production venture under the banner Mammootty Kampany.

The makers had earlier planned Rorschach as an Onam 2022 release, given that the megastar’s birthday also fell during the festive week. But it was later pulled out of the race as there are multiple other films eyeing the Onam box-office market, including Oru Thekkan Thallu Case, Pathonpathaam Nootaandu and Ottu, among others.

Meanwhile, fans have been going ga-ga over the Rorschach trailer. Calling it “Damn good” and “Spectacular”, the visuals and the background score of the trailer have caught their fancy. Although the trailer does not mention a release date and ends with a ‘See you soon’ note, the buzz in industry circles is that the film will be in theatres during the Dasara/pooja holidays. September 29 is, apparently, when Rorschach will be in theatres. If this is true, it will be in competition with Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan at the box office.
