Apple TV renews Rose Byrne’s dramedy series Physical for another season. The streaming platform announced the news two days before the end of the show's first season.
Physical takes place in sunny San Diego in the 1980s. The dark comedy-drama follows Sheila Rubin, played by Byrne, a dutiful wife who supports her husband as he bids for state assembly. Sheila is a multi-layered character who also fights her demons relating to self-image, until she finds the answer in aerobics.
Sheila's real release comes when she turns herself from an overlooked housewife into a female lifestyle guru. She merges her newfound love for aerobics with the booming market for VHS tapes. Physical tracks this journey from an enabler to a confident economic force.
Byrne has been a star in demand for some years now. The Volpi Cup-winning Australian actress recently completed the limited series Mrs America, where she played Gloria Steinem, the historic feminist journalist and social political activist. She will soon be seen in Platonic, the comedy series which will see her reunite with Seth Rogen. The two starred in Neighbours, the 2014 comedy.
