Roy release date: When and where to watch Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sija Rose and Shine Tom Chacko’s mystery drama

Director Sunil Ibrahim’s director Roy, which had completed its shoot last year, is finally set to release on an OTT platform. The movie, which has Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sija Rose and Shine Tom Chacko in pivotal roles, was always meant to be an OTT release, but it has taken the makers over a year to finalise the platform and release date.

Sunil, who had previously helmed movies such as Chapters and Arikil Oraal, had shot the movie in Kochi and Idukki right after the second lockdown. Some of the challenges the team had to face after its shoot was to digitally eliminate the masks of people in certain sequences that were shot outdoors during the pandemic.

The film revolves around a couple essayed by Suraj and Sija named Roy and Tina, respectively. In an earlier interview with us, the filmmaker had said, “Roy has his own idiosyncrasies, and the couple have a marked age difference between them. The latter also makes their relationship unique. Though Roy begins with their bond, it soon evolves into a thriller with elements of mystery and investigation thrown into the mix.”

Apart from Suraj and Sija, the film also has Rony David, Jins Bhaskar, Riya Saira, Boban Samuel and Shine Tom, essaying the role of a police officer. Sony LIV, which has acquired its OTT rights, has now announced that the movie will begin streaming on the platform from December 9. The platform recently released the trailer of the film, which also hints at its plot.

The trailer starts off by hinting that journalist Tina, Roy’s wife, who was probing the disappearance of a novelist, has also gone missing. The cops, however, refuse to take Roy’s complaint seriously due to his quirks. This prompts Roy to go on a search himself. Suraj’s first OTT release – Kaanekkaane – had also dropped on Sony LIV. Both Roy and Kaanekkaane can also be watched on OTTPlay Premium.
