With its star power and SS Rajamouli’s directorial prowess, RRR is definitely one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year. Touted to be the director’s magnum opus, Rajamouli recently opened about a particular sequence in the film which put quite a big strain on the movie’s budget.
In conversation with The Quint, the filmmaker revealed that the cast and crew had spent almost 65 nights to complete filming for a particular sequence, incurring a cost of Rs 75 lakh for each night. Rajamouli talked about how frustrated and irate the delays had made him, recalling a few times where he had lost his temper because of it.
The filmmaker also talked about how the scriptwriting process was when he was at his ‘happiest’ as he feels limitless and can let the story flow from his thoughts. Rajamouli said he recognised his skill as a storyteller and writing was a welcome process compared to actual filming. While shooting there was always the concern of something going wrong especially in the case of largely mounted scenes.
RRR is a period film which tells the fictionalised story of two real life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. The two were important figures in the Rampa Rebellion of 1922 and the 1930s battles against the Nizam rulers of Hyderabad respectively.
The upcoming film features N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson and Shriya Saran.
RRR had initially been scheduled for a theatrical release on January 7, which has been postponed indefinitely due to Omicron concerns.
