RRR’s Hindi version has taken a good start at the Box Office. The day one collections of the film suggest it is the second-best post-pandemic opening after Sooryavanshi. According to reports on Box Office India, the movie has minted at least Rs. 15 crores nett by afternoon of its opening day.
RRR was one of the most-awaited releases in Hindi and it has already surpassed 83 and Bachchhan Paandey’s opening day collections. Akshay Kumar’s film, Bachchhan Paandey had an especially weak opening because it was a Holi release. However, that is not the case with RRR and thus, a comparison with 83 would be fairer.
The SS Rajamouli directorial has a good opening all across India but Delhi NCR, East Punjab and Kolkata has not shown as much interest in the film mainly because they are still eager to watch Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files over other movies. Thus, RRR’s comparison is hugely between Mumbai and Thane. The latter belt has been quite actively contributing the Box Office collections of RRR so far.
Single screens have accepted the film but RRR is struggling in multiplexes, especially PVRRR. The proof of that is almost houseful theatres in a place like Nagpur. Although the multiplexes are struggling at this given point, that was the case with Pushpa: The Fire as well. The movie, however, picked up by evening and night and if there is a good response for RRR, the movie might just see the same fate.
As expected, RRR is performing well in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The movie is expected to perform much better than Prabhas’ previous release, Saaho, especially in these belts.
While in a typical case, this Ram Charan-Jr. NTR headed film should have performed well i.e. probably a la Baahubali, it has released during a time when a small-budget movie like The Kashmir Files has created a huge wave, especially in North India. The film, based on exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, has been working extremely well in the Delhi-NCR belt. It is now on its way to become the highest-grossing film in the belt, even beating Baahubali: The Conclusion (helmed by Rajamouli).
RRR is made on a huge budget (approximately Rs. 400 crores or more) and thus, the movie requires a huge win which is possible after seeing a good opening number. While good, the numbers need to be great in order for the film to get the blockbuster tag. Currently, that appears a little tough for RRR, unless the movie picks up over the weekend after a good word-of-mouth.
