RRR: Jr NTR says Ram Charan is like 'Golgappa' during a chat with Rana Daggubatti

The much-awaited magnum opus of SS Rajamouli is just a day away from hitting the theatres across the country. It has already led to a mass hysteria and the film has become a rage on the internet. The film, featuring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, will be out tomorrow, on March 25.

The two leading actors along with the director are promoting the film without leaving any stone unturned. The trio have been travelling across the country to promote their epic period drama. The team recently caught up with Rana Daggubatti at his residence in Mumbai to talk about their film, their camaraderie on and off the screen and more.

During the candid conversation, the Baahubali star Rana asked about what pan-India meant for the RRR entourage. NTR Jr said that after travelling to different cities and talking to the media, they have realised that it's not different. He added talking to the media and the audiences are same. He found that the only difference might be the language but the excitement of cinema is common across the country.

Jr NTR has been setting some serious bromance goals with his friend Ram Charan with the song Nacho. Talking about their chemistry, Jr NTR and Ram Charan took reference of food to describe each other. While Jr NTR called Ram Charan, a 'golgappa', Ram reciprocated calling him a 'non-veg thali'.

Jr NTR said, “He's (Ram) like a golguppa. You put him in your mouth, you savour him, and then you start understanding the flavours. It's not your poori, water and channa. It's everything put together.”

Ram Charan added, “If I have to relate a dish for him, it's a non-vegetarian thali. A bit of everything and it can never be a vegetarian.” NTR Jr continued the conversation, talking about Rajamouli's hunger for cinema and Ram said the filmmaker's appetite for storytelling has gone up several notches since Baahubali happened and that he's unstoppable now.

Rajamouli has directed the two in his earlier films. When Rana asked how the two have evolved their craft, he said Jr NTR is a born talent. He said, “I think in the beginning probably he was too energetic and he was giving everything for everyone and acting doesn't work like that. You should know when to step on the pedal and take your foot off the pedal." He added that he wasn't aware how to choose the right projects for himself but now he's become more matured. "He knows how to judge stories, he knows how to select stories. He knows when to go full steam and when to step back. He understands all that. That's the difference,” he said.

Rajamouli also opened up about the early filmmaking days with Ram Charan. He said though he's very talented, he had no idea about the process initially. But he gradually learned it and his approach is completely different now. He added, "He has learnt to trust his instincts more. He learnt to keep his mind free of his own thoughts and interpretations and feelings." Looks like Ram Charan is a director's actor. Rajamouli says he comes with a totally free mind when he's giving a shot. "He says that I'm a complete white paper, you write whatever you want,” said the director.

Rajamouli is known for creating larger-than-life films. Rana observed that he has pushed the bar for action and brand of cinema. The filmmaker responded that hundreds of emotions run through his mind and he can't keep calm. He searches through his emotions. "Suppose, there is a shot where he is shouting at the tiger. There are thousands of sequences, but why I reach that point is that I go through the emotion. It might look heroic that he's shouting at the tiger, but you observe closely, there's so much angst, frustration, so much revolt inside the shout," he said. He further added that he's very particular about these emotions and how they are portrayed. "I'm very particular about how he shouts when he starts opening his eyes and he starts going into the shout and reaches its crescendo. He's such a talent that he can give me what I want in one or two takes," he said adding that the actor is so talented that the scene was shot with perfection in one or two takes. 'Chase the emotions and visual will follow' is the mantra the director lives by.

Apart from Jr NTR and Ram Charan, the film also features Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, marking their debut in Telugu cinema. The Rajamouli directorial film is set to release in theatres on March 25.
