SS Rajamouli's magnum opus, RRR has been breaking records at the box office nationally and internationally. The film, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles, was released just a week ago, on March 25 and witnessed a grand opening, grossing over Rs 200 crore on the day. It not only became the fastest movie to enter the 100 crore club in India but it has now become the second-highest grosser of all time in the country.
The film completed the first week of its theatrical run with a bang. The film earned Rs. 527 crores at the Indian box office to become the second-biggest grosser ever in the country. The film surpassed Dangal, which earned Rs. 511 crores, yesterday. And now, to hold the first position, it will have to break the record of Baahubali 2, which is also helmed by SS Rajamouli. The film had earned Rs. 1,348 crores. But the film noticed about a 15 per cent dip in the numbers yesterday. If it has to overtake Baahubali 2, it needs to earn more than Rs 800 crore and bridge the gap to hold the first position. Due to the decline, it is predicted that it will be extremely difficult for the film to earn close to Rs 1000 crore more. It might be able to make a total of Rs 900 crores is what is being predicted if it has some strongholds.
According to Pinkvilla, the film faced dips in the number in Telugu states on Tuesday and Wednesday but it got stable on Thursday. With the upcoming festive weekend, it can make it up for the loss and make big money in the next three days. In Telugu states, the film earned around Rs. 244 crores in the first week. It is expected to top Baahubali 2 at least in the region by collecting over Rs 300 crore by Sunday. This can be met considering the high ticket prices. The high ticket prices have been an advantage and also a disadvantage for the movie. It has helped the movie do tremendously well but has affected the repeat business. The ticket prices are still higher than what the regional audience is used to.
The film opened to great reviews. Written and directed by Rajamouli, RRR stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead and also features Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson, Olivia Morris and Shriya Saran in supporting roles.
