RRR actor and Telugu star Ram Charan had high praise for Malayalam cinema and its actors, in a recent interview ahead of the release of the much-anticipated SS Rajamouli directorial, co-starring NTR Jr.

In an interview with actress Pearle Maaney, the Magadheera actor admitted that he is a huge fan of Mohanlal’s films. He said that people across industries “adore” Malayalam cinema and its actors, citing the recent example of Tovino Thomas’ Minnal Murali, which is streaming on Netflix.

“I have been following all Lal sir’s (Mohanlal) films and Prithvi (Prithviraj Sukumaran) sir’s directorials. I loved Lucifer, which my dad (Chiranjeevi) is now doing. So, we are all huge fans of Malayalam cinema, whose audience have evolved so much with such great films,” said the actor.

Chiranjeevi is currently shooting for the Telugu remake of Lucifer titled Godfather. The film has Chiranjeevi playing Mohanlal’s role while Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been roped in to essay the character that Prithviraj had played in the Malayalam version.

There has also been reports of Chiranjeevi buying the rights for Prithviraj’s second directorial Bro Daddy, which again had Mohanlal in the lead. The upcoming Telugu remake is rumoured to have Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan essaying the father-son duo in the film.

Incidentally, Chiranjeevi had earlier mentioned his wish to collaborate with Prithviraj for Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and had even approached the Malayalam actor with a role. Prithviraj, however, couldn’t be part of the big budget movie as he was busy with his directorial Lucifer.

Meanwhile, Ram Charan and NTR Jr are eagerly awaiting the release of RRR, Rajamouli’s next after the hugely successful Baahubali films. Set in 1920, the movie has Ram Charan and NTR Jr playing Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bhee, respectively. RRR, which will release in theatres on March 25, also has Alia Bhatt, Ray Stevenson, Shritya Saran and Ajay Devgn in pivotal roles.
