After becoming one of the biggest hits across the globe last year, RRR is still making the country proud in a number of ways. The SS Rajamouli directorial is still making history, with the song Naatu Naatu from the film’s soundtrack gaining a nomination for Best Original song at the 95th Academy Awards this year. The RRR team, including SS Rajamouli and the film’s lead stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan attended the awards ceremony this year, and were all grace and charm.
At the red carpet, Ram Charan spoke of the warm response audiences all over the world had for the film, and how the film made waves in global cinema. Calling the Academy Awards the ‘Mecca of Cinema’, he said “I feel its not just the RRR team, it's India who is here and we are walking (the red carpet) as Indians and for India”.
The actor also thanked the film’s director Rajamouli and the film’s music composer MM Keeravani, who the former said was the reason he was walking the red carpet. Calling the whole experience a ‘roller coaster ride’, Ram Charan also thanked the audiences for giving RRR so much love.
Jr NTR also concurred with his co-star about RRR’s impact. The actor was dressed in a suave traditional attire with a fierce tiger embroidered upon it, designed by Gaurav Gupta. Speaking about the same, the actor talked about how the design came to be, saying “We’d discussed this, saying it's not gonna be us walking the red carpet, it’s going to be India. So I’m wearing Indian attire and the tiger is India's national animal”.
The actor also spoke of how surreal the experience was and how ecstatic he felt. “You know I’ve always been seeing the carpet on TV. But guess what, I walked that carpet, I'm walking the carpet. It feels amazing”.
Naatu Naatu made history, becoming the first ever Indian song to win the Best Original song award at the Oscars this year.
The Oscars 2023 was streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar.
