No promotional drive for a major Telugu film is complete without a team's interaction with popular television anchor, host Suma. Hence, it was imperative that the RRR team too followed suit, and the result was a wacky, funny yet memorable conversation. SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan's interaction with Suma wasn't like any other promotional interview for RRR before, for it had them bonding over the most popular memes about the film in the lead up to its release on March 25.
It was a delight to watch the leading stars and the director in a jovial mode while glimpsing through some of the most hilarious memes surrounding the film. It all began with a meme based on a scene from Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, where Jr NTR, Ram Charan is being taken away by SS Rajamouli and the fans are worried that they may not see their stars for the next few years on the big screen. Another interesting meme made fun of the fact that SS Rajamouli assured media about the film releasing in 2020 (during its launch).
One of the best memes from the conversation had Prabhas poking fun at RRR stars who were hoping that the film's shoot would be completed in a year or two. Given SS Rajamouli's quest for perfection, a meme also had SS Rajamouli asking Jr NTR and Ram Charan to shoot an entire action scene again because there wasn't enough dust raising from the ground. In many instances, Jr NTR spoke talked of his anger about Rajamouli's quest for perfection and how his retakes would be back-breaking for him and Ram Charan more often than not.
There were of course many memes about the pranks of Jr NTR and Ram Charan on set and SS Rajamouli, on a lighter note, added that such memes mirrored reality during the shoot. The Yamadonga actor also told about the situation where SS Rajamouli's son Karthikeya would address him as 'Annaaa' whenever they had to shoot on their off days too. Ram Charan was labelled as the silent one on sets, who voiced his frustration about Rajamouli's perfectionism to Jr NTR, but the latter told that it was he, who ends up hogging the limelight every time.
In this entertaining chat, Jr NTR also revealed that SS Rajamouli didn't spare the both of them even during the promotions, the pre-release event in Mumbai in particular, where he had to land on the stage from an 80 feet-height. In fact, it's surprising to know that the Mumbai promotional event had the team shooting the entry of Jr NTR and Ram Charan separately on a set in Hyderabad and putting it together for the final edit released to the public.
The banter between Jr NTR and Suma was good fun to watch. Suma, in the conversation, even joked about the fact that Jr NTR spoke in every language during promotions but for Malayalam. The star's response that he left Malayalam for Suma to explore, was genuinely funny. There was a side-talk about Suma's film comeback Jayamma Panchayathi too. Jr NTR told that Suma, as an actor, would be an apt fit to replace the fill the void left behind by the likes of Nirmalamma, Chaya Devi and Suryakantham in Telugu cinema.
This interaction is certain to go down as the best among the set of interviews released by RRR's producers, DVV Entertainment. The focus wasn't entirely on the film, the team even hailed the meme-makers at the end of the conversation. It showed why Suma is a brand of her own and can infuse so much life into any mundane promotional interview.
F3 director Anil Ravipudi, composer MM Keeravaani were among others who spoke with the RRR team in the Telugu interviews. Also starring Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Rahul Ramakrishna, Rajeev Kanakala, Shriya Saran, Olivia Morris and Samuthirakani, RRR has cinematography by K Senthil Kumar and is edited by A Sreekar Prasad.
