Earlier today, the team of late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s James had a peculiar request to exhibitors – “Please retain Appu sir’s last film in theatres for a second week”. James director Chethan Kumar was at the forefront of this, amid news that the film was rapidly losing halls to this week’s release, RRR, which hits theatres on March 25. Advance booking for the SS Rajamouli film has already begun, and initial estimates suggest that James will lose a bulk of its screens to RRR this Friday. “I have been getting calls since morning from fans that even though James has been doing relatively well at several movie halls in the state, exhibitors are removing it to make way for RRR. Please do not do that. There are still of lakhs of Appu sir fans who have not yet seen the film. Remember, this is Appu sir’s last commercial film and that too a Kannada movie and your support is needed in this hour. Please don’t disappoint fans. James is not just a movie, it is an emotion,” said Chethan in a video message to exhibitors across the state.
Considering that James is the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s last commercial film, there’s a sustained interest in it, as fans have been making a beeline for movie halls to catch their favourite Power Star one last time in a full-fledged action-packed role. Fans have also been tweeting to the team of RRR not to take away screens from James. “Releasing taking away screen of #JamesHistoricEuphoria which is doing well is a sin,” wrote a fan.
