Yash’s KGF Chapter 2 has emerged as a very strong opener at the box office. The film, released on April 14, went on to mint Rs 134.5 crore. But despite its impressive opening day, it has failed to beat RRR’s record.
SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, still holds the crown in terms of the Indian film with the biggest opening day collections. The film earned Rs 158.6 crore on its first day. By doing so, it beat the record that was previously held by another Rajamouli helmed film - Baahubali: The Conclusion. The latter had earned Rs 152 crore on its opening day, which is currently the second-highest witnessed in Indian cinema.
RRR, which has garnered numerous records to its name with its ongoing box office success, recently grossed over Rs 1,000 crore . The film also became the first Indian film to ever cross the $5 million mark in the USA.
Despite not being able to shake RRR’s record, KGF Chapter 2 is also running strong at the box office at the moment. Like RRR, the Prashant Neel directorial too has been released in 5 languages - Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil. Both the highly anticipated films are still running in theatres.
KGF Chapter 2, a sequel to Neel’s 2018 film, stars Yash in the lead. The film also features a stellar cast consisting of Prakash Raj, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, Ramachandra Raju, Vasishta N Simha, Saran Sakthi and Archana Jois.
RRR, which hit theatres on March 25 after numerous postponements, is a fictional story based on real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. Starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles, the film also features Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris.
