A lot of Indian movie fans, who had caught the stream of the 80th Golden Globe Awards, would recall the moment that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega announced Naatu Naatu as the winner of the Best Original Song. The RRR team, who were present including SS Rajamouli, NTR Jr and Ram Charan, cheered the loudest for composer MM Keeravani as walked to the stage to collect the award and make his acceptance speech.

While it was surely a historic moment for Indians, what the feed didn’t show was the Hollywood celebrities, who were in attendance, had gone silent. Most of them were probably rooting for Rihanna’s Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick or Taylor Swift’s Carolina from Where the Crawdads Singh. Guillermo del Toro and Roeban Katz’s Ciao Papa from the Netflix movie Pinocchio was also nominated in the category.

The Hollywood Reporter’s journalist Chris Gardner, who was also present at Beverly Hilton during the event, took to his Twitter page, to share the reaction – where the rest of guests for the evening where surprised and gave a cold reaction to RRR’s win, which would have been a surprise for many.

Rihanna’s song Lift Me Up, in a way, also paid tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever filmmaker Ryan Coogler said that Jay Z had helped him reach out to Rihanna for the track and after she recorded the song, she told him that she “did this for Chad”.

The general reaction at the Golden Globes notwithstanding, Rihanna had congratulated the team of RRR when she passed them by along with her partner ASAP Rocky.

Meanwhile, several filmmakers including Shekar Kapur and Ram Gopal Varma took to their social media page to remind the team of the historic value of their achievement, with Oscar winner AR Rahman dubbing it a “paradigm shift”.
