Rudra: The Edge of Darkness has grabbed several eyeballs since the announcement of the psychological crime drama, led by Ajay Devgn, Esha Deol and Raashi Khanna. The drama is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, recently opened up about the Disney+ Hotstar drama and how its locations bring out the essence of the story.

In a conversation with IANS, the director also talked about the choice of location and the story behind it. He said there were 70 locations that they shot at. "Some of them have not been seen before. These locations needed multiple recce and visits to understand the area, lighting, logistics. But most of our locations have been seen before - it is, after all, Mumbai meri Jaan!," he added.

He felt it was necessary to explore the city in a different and never-seen-before manner through its locations and that it was a creative decision to do so. "I hope when you see many of your familiar landmarks, you see something intriguing and different in the shot-taking," he said. He further revealed that he had Devgn and Atul Kulkarni shoot a key scene in the middle of a busy crossing at VT Selfie Point at peak traffic hours. The makers shot 9 to 10 pages of their script there.

He also spoke about the technicalities of the sequence with the news agency. He said, "DOP Sanjay Memane set up eight cameras, from 2 AM, the night before the shoot. It was a triumph of teamwork - camera, lighting, production, art, wardrobe, hair-makeup, direction. And hopefully, it looks like a VT, you've never seen before."

The series is a remake of the British series Luther, which tells a dark story of a cop's journey as he uncovers truths and works towards getting justice for victims. The film will have Devgn play the role of the cop and the role is completely different from his cop avatar in Singham, which has only gotten his fans more excited.

The crime drama also stars Atul Kulkarni, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tarun Gahlot, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Satyadeep Misra in pivotal roles. It is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India. It is all set to release on March 4 on Disney+ Hotstar in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, and Bengali.
