RRR, besides giving what Jr NTR and Ram Charan fans expected of the film, did its part in rekindling the interest around pre-Independence era tales among viewers. Ajay Samrat, who assisted Vijayendra Prasad in the writing department for Baahubali, RRR, is making his directorial debut with Rudrangi, a 1940s story revolving around a despotic zamindar in a village from Telangana.

Jagapathi Babu, Mamta Mohandas, Vimala Raman essay lead roles in the film that also features Kalakeya Prabhakar, Ashish Gandhi and Ganavi Laxman. The project is bankrolled by well-known Telangana bureaucrat Rasamayi Balakishan under Rasamayi films. After unveiling a series of character promos, posters and songs, the makers launched the film’s teaser today.

Wild is an understatement to describe the Rudrangi teaser. Jagapathi Babu is cast as an eccentric zamindar Bheemrao Deshmukh in a village, who claims that its residents don’t deserve Independence because they’re slaves. A new woman Jwalabai Deshmukh enters his life and shares a tense equation with Bheemrao’s other wife. Mallesh is a village rebel who stands up against Bheemrao.

Bheemrao refers to himself as God and receives support from Jwalabai to teach Mallesh a lesson. Where is this tale headed? Despite its loudness, it’s evident that Ajay Samrat is looking to introduce viewers to a forgotten chapter from history in a story that takes adequate commercial liberties. Jagapathi Babu in 2022 said that the film would mark the beginning of his third innings in Telugu cinema.

RS Nandha, Charishma Sreekar and Divi Vadthya are also part of the cast. With music by Nawfal Raja Ais, Rudrangi has cinematography by Santhosh Shanamoni and is edited by Bontha Nageswara Reddy. Ayesha Mariam is the stylist while Chandrabose, Abhinaya Srinivas and Manukota Prasad are the lyricists. Bhanu and Ajay are the choreographers with Ram Sunkara, and Jashuva handling the stunts.
