With three releases this year, Ruhi Singh is having a great time on the work front. Her latest release is Runaway Lugaai, a web series streaming on MX Player, has her playing a free-spirited girl whom she says she connected the most with.

The model-turned-actress tells us about what she has learnt from her co-star Sanjay Mishra, her plans for life and career, and more.

Tell us about Runaway Lugaai.

It is a show close to my heart. The past few months have been fruitful in terms of releases. I had three releases and Bulbul in Runaway Lugaai is the stark opposite of any character I’ve played so far. Through this character, I am breaking stereotypes. People think a model can only play urban roles but I’m breaking that barrier with the show.

Did you relate to Bulbul in any way?

Absolutely. I think Bulbul is from a small town but has big dreams. She definitely represents a different segment of the modern Indian women. She’s a free-spirited girl, who is sure of her ideologies. She takes a bold decision and I would do the same.

What is your fondest memory from the sets?

It was definitely the fact that I shared a vanity van with Sanjay Mishra sir. I wanted to be around him throughout the shoot. I was a student and he called me ‘chirkut.’ I just followed him like a shadow.

Did he give you any tips?

I think his personality changed me. I’m extremely dedicated, but sir taught me how to chill. He taught me that imperfection is perfect and to enjoy life.

How was it working with the others?

Arya Babbar is a great friend, and so is Ravi Kishan. I had a great time with Ravi and we would discuss politics because I’m also studying law. When he met me, he told me that I’m a social media star. That was a huge compliment.

How do you manage between both acting and academics?

I love it. If you give me time to sleep or work all the time, I’ll choose the latter because I do not want free time. I’m also training to sing. I feel that life is short and there are too many dreams, and I want to fulfill all of them.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

Currently we don’t even know about tomorrow. But I want to leave a legacy and be recognised as someone who made a difference. I want to make sure little girls are educated because that is very crucial.

You have worked on OTT shows and films. Which do you prefer?

It’s the same for me, to be honest. I would put in as much effort for both. It’s just that the production in films is bigger, so you have time to work on your scenes there, but not in this.

You have worked in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema. Any plans of working in other regional films?

It depends on the opportunity but I believe India has great scope with the beautiful culture and languages. I would love to work in Bengali cinema. There are extremely talented filmmakers there. Even Punjabi cinema is doing extremely well at the moment. So I would love to do a great character.
