Draupadi will highlight the tale of oppressed women in society.
Alongside her powerful portrayal of women characters on stage, Rukmini Maitra now raises her voice about women's status in society. Even in the 21st century, where women are reaching for the moon as astronauts, achieving great heights in the field of space science like NASA's pioneers, she still cherishes the idea of keeping women grounded in the cocoon of traditional homes. Perhaps, she seeks approval or a sense of comfort within the so-called modern society. Rukmini Maitra raises the issue of women's position in society even before stepping onto the stage to play Draupadi's character.
Sharing her thoughts, she states, “I don't know when the humiliation of women began in the Mahabharata era, but all the women of the Kuru dynasty had to bear the brunt of this insult. Even today, society hesitates to accept women’s rights and achievements. Draupadi will highlight the tale of oppressed women in society. I will be grateful for your blessings on this challenging journey.”
After her notable performances in Nati Binodini and Satyavati, Rukmini is now preparing to play the role of Draupadi. She has already begun her preparation. Just like she learned to dance for two years before her acting debut in Binodini, she will leave no stone unturned before stepping into the shoes of the strong female characters in Mahabharata. The direction is under Ram Kamal Mukherjee.
Ram Kamal, who previously directed Rukmini in Nati Binodini, found a perfect match in her for the role of Draupadi both in acting and personality. Producer Dev is also pleased with the director's choice and says, “Ram Kamal has concealed a beautiful narrative within the story of Ram Kamal. I love that.”
Rukmini's response to her new film is, “Ram Kamal had been wanting to make a film on Draupadi for a long time, but he waited for the right moment. Draupadi's character in Mahabharata is extraordinary, full of shades. After Binodini, this character is another challenging one for me.”
