Kangana Ranaut on October 19, announced that she has signed up for her next film venture, which will see her play Nati Binodini, one of the legendary theatre actresses from nineteenth-century Bengal, in her biopic. The announcement has surfaced debates about possible comparisons that will be made between Kangana Ranaut and Bengali actress Rukmini Maitri who will also be playing the role of Nati Binodini in her upcoming film next year.

While reacting to the Wednesday announcement, Rukmini in an interview with Hindustan Times stated that she feels great to hear about the news. Being a Bengali herself, she feels that it's a good thing a Bengali stalwart is being recognised and given her due credit.

While talking about the film, she stated that she feels proud that the country is giving due credit and recognising a Bengali woman who carved her niche in theatre and films and paved the way forward for other women.

She further stated that as both actors are playing similar roles on screen, comparisons are bound to happen but feels honoured to be compared to a senior and versatile actor like Kangana who has proved the mettle of her acting on screen with performances in films such as Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, Fashion and many more. Rukmini said that she is a fan of Kangana’s and feels confident that both actors will do complete justice to their roles.
