Exclusive | Here is why Rukmini Maitra says ‘no’ to Srijit Mukherji’s Dawsham Awbotaar

Srijit Mukherji is all set to start shooting his new feature film, Dawsham Awbotaar. Soon after the schedule of his Byomkesh web series, Durdo Rowhoshyo, the director started the recce for his film. Billed as a cop drama, the film will feature Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jisshu U Sengupta, and Anirban Bhattacharya. 

As per preliminary reports, Subhashree Ganguly was scheduled to play the female lead in the film. However, along with her husband, Raj Chakraborty, the actress announced their second pregnancy. Speculation is rife that Subhashree will step down from the project.

Srijit’s team approached Rukmini Maitra for a character in Dawsham Awbotaar. However, the actress, who will be seen as Satyabati against Dev in Byomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo and Binodini Dasi in Binodiini - Ekti Natir Upakhyan, turned down the offer. When contacted, Rukmini said, “I was offered the film. However, I have given my dates to Jeet’s production house for Boomerang. That film will go on the floors this month.” Along with her, the film will also feature Jeet in the lead. Television actress Debchandrima will pair up with Ballabhpurer Roopkotha-fame Satyam Bhattacharya. 

Meanwhile, Jaya Ahsan was also approached for Dawsham Awbotaar. She heard the script verbally but is yet to take a call. There has not been any confirmation from the makers or the actress.  

In fact, both Srijit and Dev are passionately pursuing their project, Byomkesh. Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s Durgo Rohoshyo is in much demand in the Bengali film industry. Srijit and Birsa Dasgupta have just completed shooting a web series and a film on this novel. The feature film is produced by Dev, and he plays the detective in the film. Anirban Bhattacharya plays Byomkesh in Srijit’s web series for Hoichoi.
