When a filmmaker chooses an odd face for a key role, we are in awe. Still, a film is called a director's medium, and the director had to have a clear idea of what he wanted before he chose his cast.

Kapil Sharma plays the lead role in the upcoming Nandita Das-written drama Zwigato. When asked about choosing Kapil for the part, Nandita told ANI that she didn't know much about Kapil Sharma because she hadn't seen his show. Then one day, she stumbled onto a clip of Kapil at an awards ceremony. She had the "aam aadmi ki tarah hai" feeling after seeing that clip. His speech patterns and body language are those of the average male.

Nandita first imagined this as a 20-minute short film. Subsequently, due to its intriguing subject matter, it was decided to turn it into a feature film.

The troubles of a food delivery man and his family are the subject of the movie. When questioned about picking such a topic, Nandita responded that this type of subject interests her because the average man's tale is shown less frequently in movies nowadays.

Nandita has also addressed the controversy surrounding Shah Rukh Khan's inclusion in the film. It was claimed that Nandita would have only chosen Kapil even if Shah Rukh had agreed to star in the film. Nandita denied such claims, saying that Kapil is a cast member in this movie since the plot of her movie is Aam Insaan's tale. It's not the tale of a famous person.

The movie was shown at the Busan International Film Festival, the International Film Festival of Kerala, and the Toronto International Film Festival.

In the film, Shahana Goswami has a crucial role to play. Zwigato is hitting theatres this Friday.
