Actor Ryan Reynolds has revealed another character from his upcoming movie Free Guy. In a promotional video he shared on Twitter and YouTube, Reynolds revealed that he will be playing two characters in the movie. The second character is a terrifying alter ego called Dude.
The video shows Reynolds' character Guy, a passive non-player character (NPC) in a video game world, meeting Dude, a muscular non-playing character designed by Taika Waititi’s Antoine. With the two coming face to face, the clip from the video is hilarious even though it is just a few seconds long.
Dude is hilarious because the character is just Reynolds’ head CGI’d into an incredibly buff double. The fact that it looks just fake enough adds to the comedy.
In the video, Reynolds in character as Dude pokes fun at celebrities who bulk up or go through physical transformations for movies. The way Dude explains how he starts every day with a “Protein Bomb”, which consists of human muscle and him flexing his muscles with every word is bound to get a few laughs.
The poorly-executed CGI goes well with him explaining he gained the muscular figure in just a week and his anecdote about passing down his physique to his newborn baby adds to the hilarity. The video reflects the trademark Reynolds humour.
Free Guy is a sci-fi action comedy, which revolves around Guy, an NPC in a game, who realises his life is just to feed the purpose of the game and becomes self aware. Directed by Shawn Levy, Free Guy also features Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Joe Keery. The movie hits theatres on August 13.
