Saani Kaayidham actor Selvaraghavan to start work on Pudhupettai 2 soon

The shooting for the sequel to Pudhupettai will begin soon, director Selvaraghavan has announced. The film saw Dhanush playing the role of Kokki Kumar, it is considered one of his most iconic characters and the sequel will see his re-emergence as Chennai’s most dreaded gangster. It looks like Selvaraghavan will direct Pudhupettai 2, before Aayirathil Oruvan 2. Multiple reports suggest that both the sequels are expected to release by 2024.

Pudhupettai 2 will be the sixth time that the brothers are working together after films such as Thulluvatho Ilamai, Kadhal Konden, Pudupettai, Mayakkam Enna and Naane Varuven.

Director Selvaraghavan had confirmed that he was indeed going to start work on the much-anticipated sequel to the 2006 cult classic, Pudhupettai, a couple of years ago, at an event. “I’m revealing for my fans, and because it is the college where I completed my engineering. I’m working on a film with Dhanush. As we were discussing what film it could be, we decided on doing Pudhupettai 2."

Also, a long time ago, Selvaraghavan posted a cryptic tweet, which said, “Giving final touches to my script”, which was cause for excitement for his fan base.

For now, Naane Varuven is due for release. And, this is the first time, the audience will see both Dhanush and Selvaraghavan as actors, in the same film.

Featuring Indhuja Ravichandran and Elli AvrRam as the female leads, this one has Dhanush playing dual roles. Naane Varuven has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography by Om Prakash. The film is produced by S Thanu, under his banner, V Creations.

The adventure thriller Aayirathil Oruvan starred Karthi, Andrea Jeremiah, Reema Sen and Parthiban in the lead and had music by GV Prakash. The film was produced by R Ravindran's Dream Valley Corporation and released in 2010. Notably, the film had a re-release in 2020. The story of Aayirathil Oruvan is about how three people embark on a journey to find Chandramouli, an archaeologist, who went to Vietnam to search for any existence of the prince of the Chola dynasty.
