Saani Kaayidham director Arun Matheswaran on why he chose Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan

After his debut film Rocky that won rave reviews from the audience, filmmaker Arun Matheswaran is back with Saani Kaayidham, which is all set for a global premiere on May 6. The revenge action drama brings together Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan for the first time on screen. The film, which is said to have an edge-of-the-seat narrative, delves into a generational curse that comes true when injustice is inflicted upon the protagonist and her family.

Speaking about why he chose Keerthy Suresh to play the lead, Arun says, “I watched Nadigaiyar Thilagam and loved her performance in it, so I had her in my mind for Saani Kaayidham. Moreover, the role she plays is something that she hasn’t done before. So, I thought she would be the right choice. She would bring in a breath of fresh air along with some deliriousness. She was the first choice for the character and I am glad she came onboard.”

The director was quite confident on whom he wanted to cast as Keerthy’s brother as well. “Selva Sir is a big name in the industry and a well-known director. Siddharth, the creative producer of the film is a good friend of Selva Sir, so it was easy to approach him. Everyone had their apprehensions since he hasn’t acted in any film before nor did he show any interest. But I just wanted to give it a shot, so I met him and narrated the story and he loved it.”

Elaborating on the experience of directing an acclaimed director in front of the camera, Arun says, “I have always seen him as a director and I was skeptical that if he would give suggestions or if we would go into an awkward zone where we wouldn’t understand each other. But he trusted me completely.” Saani Kaayidham will release with the same title in Malayalam and as Chinni in Telugu.
