Sabar Bonda (Cactus Pears), directed by debutant Rohan Parashuram Kanawade, hit theatres in September 2025, months after its illustrious premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize Dramatic in the World Cinema Competition. The filmmaker had earlier said that OTT platforms were not interested in his film, but that seems to have changed now.
Sabar Bonda is OTT bound after all and will drop on Netflix on February 6, 2026. The film stars Bhushaan Manoj and Suraaj Suman in the lead and has been described as one of the best films of 2025, exploring a tender queer love story. Also on the cast are Jayshri Jagtap, Nitin Bansode, Harish Baraskar, Ram Daund, Vidya Joshi, Hemant Kadam, Rani Kasliwal, among others.

Sabar Bonda revolves around Anand (Bhushaan) and his childhood friend Balya (Suraaj), who meet again after a while, following the former’s father’s death. For the longest time, Anand has been avoiding trips to his ancestral village because all that people there want to know is why he’s remained unmarried. It’s no different this time either, with the village folk more interested in his relationship status than the fact that he’s mourning the loss of his father.
Over the course of the 10-day mourning period, Anand and Balya come to realize that they share more than just friendship, and that what they feel for each other is meant to be kept hidden. How they navigate their relationship, even as family, and society at large, wants them to conform to the normal, is at the core of Rohan’s film.
