On Sunday (February 25), the 30th Screen Actors Guild, or SAG, awards ceremony accorded top honours to deserving winners. Pedro Pascal took home the coveted title of Best Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in the post-apocalyptic thriller series The Last of Us. His drunken speech with mixed emotions was a delight for fans. Catch the “surprising” moment here.
Actor Pedro Pascal won against the formidable likes of Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew Macfadyen, all for Succession, and Billy Crudup for The Morning Show. The 48-year-old Chilean American star was quite surprised by his win and confessed on stage that he was a little drunk during his acceptance speech.
His mixed-emotions speech began with, "This is wrong for a number of reasons. I'm a little drunk. I thought I could get drunk," he said. "And thank you, HBO, for... geez, Louise, I'm making a fool of myself. But thank you so much for this!" He also thanked his fellow nominees but mentioned none, joking that he couldn't remember any of their names. Followed by thanking HBO and show creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
Amid a loud cheer from the audience, Pascal shed happy tears, then expressed gratitude to his colleagues and family, and ended with a quirky reply: "I'm going to have a panic attack, and I'm going to leave." During the backstage conversation with Tan France, Pascal avoided the conversation about his winning speech while saying he forgot what he had said.
For the awards look, Pascal ditched a glamorous tux suit for a white unbuttoned shirt, paired with black pants and shoes, which looked quite enchanting.
Pedro Pascal won for his outstanding performance as a male lead in the drama series The Last of Us, in which he plays Joel. Pascal’s character is a father figure to an immune teenage girl, Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who is the key to saving the post-apocalyptic world.
Hollywood celebrities attended the prestigious ceremony in their glamorous avatars. From Margaret Robbie and Emma Stone to Cillian Murphy and Meryl Streep, legendary actors graced the awards show with their starry presence. The SAG Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday (Sunday in India) and also premiered live on the digital streaming platform Netflix.
Tan France and Elaine Welteroth were the witty hosts for this year's show, and they interviewed winners backstage with unmissable moments.
