Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor-starrer Bhoot Police to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar?

With big Bollywood releases making their way onto OTT platforms, the Indian film industry is experiencing a shift in not just viewership, but also techniques of filmmaking. The latest Bollywood film to join the club of OTT releases was Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai on ZEE5 and was met with an immense number of views. Mere days after Radhe’s release, filmmakers of Bhoot Police have allegedly decided to take the OTT route as well.

In November 2020, the cast of Bhoot Police began shooting in Himachal Pradesh. This horror comedy, directed by Pavan Kripalani, stars Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam. The filming wrapped in January 2021 and the film has been in the post-production phase since.

Producer Ramesh Taurani has reportedly been the one to take a direct-to-digital route for the film, owing to the mounting uncertainty regarding theatrical releases in the nation. Reports have also stated that the filmmaker has verbally committed the film to streaming giant Disney+ Hotstar and that the paperwork is yet to be finalised within a fortnight. This acquisition of Bhoot Police follows Disney+ Hotstar’s recent spree of grabbing digital rights for movies and shows to increase their user base in India.

Khan and Kapoor play the roles of ghost hunters in this spooky adventure. The film will be the latter’s second direct-to-digital release after Sardar Ka Grandson. Khan, who has already worked in successful projects like Amazon Prime Video’s Tandav, will be making his OTT film debut with Bhoot Police.

Though an official announcement is awaited, the filmmakers of Bhoot Police are sure to grab the attention of digital users with the release of the film.
