Saiju Kurup is on a roll on OTT platforms these days. The actor, who had a direct-to-OTT release with Antakshari a few weeks ago, has his 100th film Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan streaming online now.

The wedding entertainer, which is helmed by Arun Vaiga, released in theatres in March. The movie also has Siju Wilson, Shabareesh Varma, Johny Antony, Sabumon Abdusamad, Hareesh Kanaran, Biju Sopanam, Jaffer Idukki, Dr Vrinda and Shailaja as part of the cast.

The movie revolves around the wedding of the niece of the titular character played by Saiju, who is a former goon. The tension peaks on the wedding eve, with the prospective bride uninterested in the wedding, the relatives having their own ego tussles on the side while the photographers and caterers too cause pandemonium. How Jayan navigates through all this to finally see the wedding through is what the fun comedy is all about.

The movie is produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the movie’s director Arun had told us that Saiju’s character in Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan is modelled after Anjooran in Godfather. The film is also the first movie in which Saiju plays a titular character. This was followed by Antakshari, which is currently streaming on Sony LIV.

Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan dropped on Amazon Prime Video on May 10. Incidentally, Saiju is also part of another big OTT release next week with Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal-starrer 12th Man.

The mystery drama, which also has Unni Mukundan, Sshivada, Priyanka Nair, Anu Mohan, G Chandunath, Anusree and Anu Sithara, is set to stream directly on Disney+ Hotstar. The film, produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, will be Mohanlal’s third direct-to-OTT release in the past two years after Jeethu’s Drishyam 2 and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy, which is also available on Disney+ Hotstar.
