The trend these days is for a film that’s had a theatrical run to come to TV, either a general entertainment channel or through a streaming platform a month later, sometimes even earlier. Golden Star Ganesh’s last release, Sakath, though, which came to theatres on November 26, is yet to come to OTT. In fact, it has been known for a while that the film is coming to not one but two platforms, both SunNXT and Netflix, but there was no confirmed streaming date. In fact, when OTTplay reached out to director Suni a few days ago, he had said that the content was with the streaming platforms, and that it was up to them to figure out a conducive date.
That day is finally here. Earlier today, it was confirmed that Sakath will start streaming on SunNXT and Netflix from April 4, a day after its television premiere. Sakath, which is Ganesh’s second film with director Suni, after Chamak, is a comedy thriller in which the actor played a ‘visually-challenged’ singer.
In the film, Ganesh’s character Balu is a singer, who has a crush on the host of a music reality show. To boost his chances of getting on the show, Balu pretends to be blind. While still on the show and his ongoing charade, Balu witnesses a hit-and-run accident, which was actually murder. It is then up to him to prove murder while keeping up this pretext. Can he succeed in this endeavour?
Sakath, which had music by Arjun Janya, features a hit number called Shuruvaagide by Sid Sriram. The film also had Sadhu Kokila, Giri Shivanna, Surbhi, Nishvika Naidu, Malavika Avinash, Kuri Pratap, among others on its cast.
